A backup generator, also known as a standby generator, is a device that provides emergency power to a building or home when the primary power source is disrupted. #### How does a backup generator work?

They are installed outside a building and are connected to the electrical system through an automatic transfer switch. When there is a power outage, the transfer switch automatically detects the loss of power and signals the backup generator to start up. Within seconds, the generator engine starts running and begins to generate electricity. Once the generator has reached a stable operating speed and voltage, the transfer switch seamlessly switches the building’s electrical load from the primary power grid to the generator. The generator continues to supply power until the primary grid power is restored. At this point, the transfer switch switches back to the primary power source, and the generator engine is turned off.

#### Are there any specific preparations needed before the installation?

Yes, you should clear any clutter around the installation area and ensure there is a clear path for the installers to work. Additionally, it’s a good idea to make sure the installation site is accessible and that there is enough room for the AC unit to be installed.
